Arthroscopy

A tiny camera called an arthroscope is placed into your joint during arthroscopy surgery through a small incision. The arthroscopy allows the doctor to see the interior of your joint. Additional medical devices may be implanted along with the arthroscopy to do the surgery.

Only if the diagnosis cannot be determined from the symptoms or an inspection of the joint is an arthroscopy essential for a patient with a joint medical condition. The problem within the joint will typically be detected via arthroscopy, although occasionally nothing abnormal is found or there may be an anomaly that may resolve on its own.

  • Damaged or inflamed joint lining. The synovium is the name of this lining.
  • Alignment issue with the joint.
  • Any fractures of the joint or small fragments of broken cartilageunattended.
  • An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear or other damage to the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).
  • In other instances, an arthroscopy may reveal a problem that cannot be treated with arthroscopy, such as severe osteoarthritis. However, the results of joint arthroscopy surgery can frequently be used to plan out future treatments or to forecast how the condition will develop.
