Total Knee Replacement (TKR)

The femur, tibia, and the joint between the patella and the front of the femur are all knee parts. Arthritis may affect any or all of these knee components to varying degrees.

The knee replacement method entails removing the damaged knee surfaces and replacing them with metal components sandwiched between high-density polyethene-bearing surfaces.

  • A total knee replacement (TKR) is a surgical operation in which an artificial joint is inserted instead of the damaged knee joint.
  • The knee, which provides motion where the thigh and lower leg converge, is a hinge joint.
  • The patellar component substitutes the kneecap's rubbing surface on the femur.
  • The resurfaced patellar button glides effortlessly on the front of the joint, and the kneecap shields the joint.
  • Recovery times differ amongst patients and take between an hour and an hour and a half to complete the entire operation.
  • Proper rehabilitation after surgery greatly enhances results.
  • According to the patients condition, this may or may not be replaced.

Each prosthesis in the whole knee replacement process is composed of four pieces. This prosthesis is comprised of a plastic spacer that acts as the bearing surface and a metal tray that is directly linked to the bone.
